How To Repair Scuffed Vinyl Boots
Don't y'all hate it when your kid's shoes however accept tons of wear left in them, but the toes are torn out? Information technology drives me crazy! I'grand so grateful I establish out how to repair shoes and give them new life with glitter and Modern Podge. You want to learn how, as well, right? You lot won't believe the difference.
Schoolhouse uniforms are awesome. I dear the stress-free shopping and the piece of cake outfit-picking in the mornings. Finding uniform shoes for narrow feet is not and then awesome! Last yr's shoes nonetheless fit, but the toes are torn. When I saw this mail on how to repair shoes, I knew I had to endeavor it.
Why exercise I never read the actual posts before I try things? If I had read the post instead of but remembering the pictures and trying to duplicate it myself, I could've saved a step. Oh, well. Hither's how I did information technology.
Using a brown sharpie, color all of the scuffed or torn parts on the shoe. (That stride in itself makes a huge difference!)
Cutting pieces of dark fabric to encompass the tear. Cover torn area with Mod Podge. Tuck fabric around the hole and under the sole of the shoe, and cover with Mod Podge. To make the material fit, you may demand to cut some darts. (This is the pace that it might exist okay to skip. A Couple of Craft Addicts simply painted Modernistic Podge directly over the tear and painted on top. It probably depends on how desperately the shoes are torn.)
Record off the heel and toe of each shoe. You don't demand to do the heels. I just thought it might make the shoes wait more than like the glitter was supposed to be in that location. (After I painted, I retaped a new shape on the toe. I liked the rounded edges improve.) Cover all exposed areas that you don't want painted.
Coat the exposed areas with analogous glitter spray (I used Krylon Glitter Smash in Bronze Bonfire). Remove the tape rapidly so that information technology doesn't impairment the shoes.
Since I thought the glitter stood out a little too much against the color of the shoe, I added a glaze of Glossy Wood Tone (left over from this project where I transformed drawer handles from brass to oil-rubbed bronze). The color toned downwardly the glitter so that information technology didn't stand out as much. (Subsequently all . . . these are for a school uniform.) An added bonus is that it as well sealed the glitter and then that information technology won't be coming off on everything.
Overall, this was a pretty unproblematic transformation with picayune cost. (I always purchase my art supplies with a coupon! I never pay total cost.) The but problem? I can't make up one's mind if I like the final result. I sent Lu to school in these today, but I wonder if she will come up dwelling house with a note that says, "No glitter shoes, delight." If she does, she can always habiliment them for dress up.
What practise yous think? Practise you think the glitter makes these particular shoes wait silly? (I think it'south ambrosial on the Dorothy shoes at A Couple of Arts and crafts Addicts.)
Update
When Lu got abode from schoolhouse today, nosotros had the following conversation:
Did everybody love your shoes?
Yep.
Did anyone say yous can't wear them?
Nope.
What did your friends think?
{Grinning proudly} They liked them so much that I decided to share the glitter with them. I let them selection some off to have dwelling house.
What?????
Here'southward what they looked similar when she got habitation:
Skilful thing I knew just how to fix them! This fourth dimension I added an extra layer of Modernistic Podge on top to discourage tiny fingers. Lu has promised that she won't share the glitter once more!
